Amos 1:11

This is what the Lord says: “For the many crimes of Edom, I will punish them. They hunted down their relatives, the Israelites, with the sword, showing them no mercy. They were angry all the time and kept on being very angry.

“But now here are men from Ammon, Moab, and Edom. You wouldn’t let the Israelites enter their lands when the Israelites came from Egypt. So the Israelites turned away and did not destroy them.

But see how they repay us for not destroying them! They have come to force us out of your land, which you gave us as our own.

Lord, remember what the Edomites did on the day Jerusalem fell. They said, “Tear it down! Tear it down to its foundations!”

Will you be angry with us forever? Will you stay angry from now on?

Don’t become angry quickly, because getting angry is foolish.

I will not accuse forever, nor will I always be angry, because then human life would grow weak. Human beings, whom I created, would die.

But Israel has rejected what is good, so the enemy will chase them.

But Egypt will become empty, and Edom an empty desert, because they were cruel to the people of Judah. They killed innocent people in that land.

There is no God like you. You forgive those who are guilty of sin; you don’t look at the sins of your people who are left alive. You will not stay angry forever, because you enjoy being kind.

And I am very angry with the nations that feel so safe. I was only a little angry at them, but they made things worse.’

The Lord said, “I have loved you.” But you ask, “How have you loved us?” The Lord said, “Esau and Jacob were brothers. I loved Jacob,

The people of Edom might say, “We were destroyed, but we will go back and rebuild the ruins.” But the Lord All-Powerful says, “If they rebuild them, I will destroy them. People will say, ‘Edom is a wicked country. The Lord is always angry with the Edomites.’

You are God’s children whom he loves, so try to be like him.

Don’t hate Edomites; they are your close relatives. Don’t hate Egyptians, because you were foreigners in their country.
