Stephen answered, “Brothers and fathers, listen to me. Our glorious God appeared to Abraham, our ancestor, in Mesopotamia before he lived in Haran.

Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot (Haran’s son), and his daughter-in-law Sarai (Abram’s wife) and moved out of Ur of Babylonia. They had planned to go to the land of Canaan, but when they reached the city of Haran, they settled there.

The Lord said to Abram, “Leave your country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land I will show you.

He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, and everything they owned, as well as all the servants they had gotten in Haran. They set out from Haran, planning to go to the land of Canaan, and in time they arrived there.

God said to Abram, “I am the Lord who led you out of Ur of Babylonia so that I could give you this land to own.”

Jacob said to the shepherds there, “My brothers, where are you from?” They answered, “We are from Haran.”

“You are the Lord, the God who chose Abram and brought him out of Ur in Babylonia and named him Abraham.

Who is this glorious King? The Lord All-Powerful— he is the glorious King.Selah

Open up, you gates. Open wide, you aged doors and the glorious King will come in.

The Lord’s voice is heard over the sea. The glorious God thunders; the Lord thunders over the ocean.

Did the gods of those people save them? My ancestors destroyed them, defeating the cities of Gozan, Haran, and Rezeph, and the people of Eden living in Tel Assar.

Look at Abraham, your ancestor, and Sarah, who gave birth to your ancestors. Abraham had no children when I called him, but I blessed him and gave him many descendants.

Each creature was calling to the others: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord All-Powerful. His glory fills the whole earth.”

And do not cause us to be tempted, but save us from the Evil One.’ [The kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours forever. Amen.]

“Give glory to God in heaven, and on earth let there be peace among the people who please God.”

The Word became a human and lived among us. We saw his glory—the glory that belongs to the only Son of the Father—and he was full of grace and truth.

Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory and spoke about him.

Paul said, “Brothers and fathers, listen to my defense to you.”

When Paul said this, there was an argument between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the group was divided.

The high priest said to Stephen, “Are these things true?”

None of the rulers of this world understood it. If they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

asking the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, to give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation so that you will know him better.

We should live like that while we wait for our great hope and the coming of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.

The Son reflects the glory of God and shows exactly what God is like. He holds everything together with his powerful word. When the Son made people clean from their sins, he sat down at the right side of God, the Great One in heaven.

It was by faith Abraham obeyed God’s call to go to another place God promised to give him. He left his own country, not knowing where he was to go.

My dear brothers and sisters, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, never think some people are more important than others.

Then Joshua said to all the people, “Here’s what the Lord, the God of Israel, says to you: ‘A long time ago your ancestors lived on the other side of the Euphrates River. Terah, the father of Abraham and Nahor, worshiped other gods.

“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, because you made all things. Everything existed and was made, because you wanted it.”
