Acts 23:9

So there was a great uproar. Some of the teachers of the law, who were Pharisees, stood up and argued, “We find nothing wrong with this man. Maybe an angel or a spirit did speak to him.”

When people live so that they please the Lord, even their enemies will make peace with them.

Then the officers and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, “Jeremiah must not be killed. What he told us comes from the Lord our God.”

When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw Jesus eating with the tax collectors and “sinners,” they asked his followers, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

A third time Pilate said to them, “Why? What wrong has he done? I can find no reason to kill him. So I will have him punished and set him free.”

Pilate said to the leading priests and the people, “I find nothing against this man.”

But the Pharisees and the men who taught the law for the Pharisees began to complain to Jesus’ followers, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

The crowd standing there, who heard the voice, said it was thunder. But others said, “An angel has spoken to him.”

Since God gave them the same gift he gave us who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, how could I stop the work of God?”

“About noon when I came near Damascus, a bright light from heaven suddenly flashed all around me.

I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’

I learned that these people said Paul did some things that were wrong by their own laws, but no charge was worthy of jail or death.

(The Sadducees do not believe in angels or spirits or that people will rise from the dead. But the Pharisees believe in them all.)

When I judged him, I found no reason to order his death. But since he asked to be judged by Caesar, I decided to send him.

and left the room. Talking to each other, they said, “There is no reason why this man should die or be put in jail.”

Last night an angel came to me from the God I belong to and worship.

But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop them. You might even be fighting against God himself!” The leaders agreed with what Gamaliel said.

Saul fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul! Why are you persecuting me?”

Are we trying to make the Lord jealous? We are not stronger than he is, are we?

Samuel said to them, “The Lord is a witness to what you have said. His appointed king is also a witness today that you did not find anything wrong in me.” “He is our witness,” they said.

He said, “You are a better man than I am. You have been good to me, but I have done wrong to you.
