While they were trying to kill Paul, the commander of the Roman army in Jerusalem learned that there was trouble in the whole city.

At this time Adonijah and all the guests with him were finishing their meal. When he heard the sound from the trumpet, Joab asked, “What does all that noise from the city mean?”

Also, he was trying to make the Temple unclean, but we stopped him. [And we wanted to judge him by our own law.

But the officer Lysias came and used much force to take him from us.

The next day Agrippa and Bernice appeared with great show, acting like very important people. They went into the judgment room with the army leaders and the important men of Caesarea. Then Festus ordered the soldiers to bring Paul in.

This is why the Jews took me and were trying to kill me in the Temple.
