Acts 13:29

When they had done to him all that the Scriptures had said, they took him down from the cross and laid him in a tomb.

This was Preparation Day. (That means the day before the Sabbath day.) That evening,

There was a good and religious man named Joseph who was a member of the council.

He took the body down from the cross, wrapped it in cloth, and put it in a tomb that was cut out of a wall of rock. This tomb had never been used before.

He said to them, “Remember when I was with you before? I said that everything written about me must happen—everything in the law of Moses, the books of the prophets, and the Psalms.”

After this, Jesus knew that everything had been done. So that the Scripture would come true, he said, “I am thirsty.”

When Jesus tasted the vinegar, he said, “It is finished.” Then he bowed his head and died.

Those who live in Jerusalem and their leaders did not realize that Jesus was the Savior. They did not understand the words that the prophets wrote, which are read every Sabbath day. But they made them come true when they said Jesus was guilty.

Jesus was given to you, and with the help of those who don’t know the law, you put him to death by nailing him to a cross. But this was God’s plan which he had made long ago; he knew all this would happen.

But God has helped me, and so I stand here today, telling all people, small and great, what I have seen. But I am saying only what Moses and the prophets said would happen—

These people made your plan happen because of your power and your will.

You killed Jesus by hanging him on a cross. But God, the God of our ancestors, raised Jesus up from the dead!

that he was buried and was raised to life on the third day as the Scriptures say;
