Ahimaaz son of Zadok said to Joab, “Let me run and take the news to King David. I’ll tell him the Lord has saved him from his enemies.”

Then the Cushite arrived. He said, “Master and king, hear the good news! Today the Lord has punished those who were against you!”

When they arrived at Hebron, they gave his head to David and said to the king, “Here is the head of Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, your enemy. He tried to kill you! Today the Lord has paid back Saul and his family for what they did to you!”

He protects me like a strong, walled city, and he loves me. He is my defender and my Savior, my shield and my protection. He helps me keep my people under control.

The Lord is a God who punishes. God, show your greatness and punish!

May the Lord judge between us, and may he punish you for the wrong you have done to me! But I am not against you.

The Lord will keep all his promises of good things for you. He will make you leader over Israel.

When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, “Praise the Lord! Nabal insulted me, but the Lord has supported me! He has kept me from doing wrong. The Lord has punished Nabal for his wrong.” Then David sent a message to Abigail, asking her to be his wife.
