Absalom did that to all the Israelites who came to King David for decisions. In this way, Absalom stole the hearts of all Israel.

David’s army went out into the field against Absalom’s Israelites, and they fought in the forest of Ephraim.

The battle spread through all the country, but that day more men died in the forest than in the fighting.

That day there was a terrible battle, and David’s men defeated Abner and the Israelites.

Abner shouted to Joab, “Must the sword kill forever? Surely you must know this will only end in sadness! Tell the people to stop chasing their own brothers!”

But David’s men had killed three hundred sixty Benjaminites who had followed Abner.

The army of Pekah son of Remaliah killed one hundred twenty thousand brave soldiers from Judah in one day. Pekah defeated them because they had left the Lord, the God of their ancestors.

You give victory to kings. You save your servant David from cruel swords.

Evil people will certainly be punished, but those who do right will be set free.

My child, respect the Lord and the king. Don’t join those people who refuse to obey them.
