Then Joab said to a man from Cush, “Go, tell the king what you have seen.” The Cushite bowed to Joab and ran to tell David.

The king asked, “Is young Absalom all right?” Ahimaaz answered, “When Joab sent me, I saw some great excitement, but I don’t know what it was.”

May the Lord do these things to those who accuse me, to those who speak evil against me.

Let him not think like a human any longer, but let him have the mind of an animal for seven years.

“Let all your enemies die this way, Lord! But let all the people who love you be as strong as the rising sun!” Then there was peace in the land for forty years.

The Lord has kept you from killing and punishing anyone. As surely as the Lord lives and as surely as you live, may your enemies become like Nabal!
