Then David got up from the floor, washed himself, put lotions on, and changed his clothes. Then he went into the Lord’s house to worship. After that, he went home and asked for something to eat. His servants gave him some food, and he ate.

When David saw his servants whispering, he knew that the baby was dead. So he asked them, “Is the baby dead?” They answered, “Yes, he is dead.”

David’s servants said to him, “Why are you doing this? When the baby was still alive, you fasted and you cried. Now that the baby is dead, you get up and eat food.”

I am quiet; I do not open my mouth, because you are the one who has done this.

Come, let’s worship him and bow down. Let’s kneel before the Lord who made us,

Don’t depend on your own wisdom. Respect the Lord and refuse to do wrong.

Put on nice clothes and make yourself look good.

So when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face.

You did not put oil on my head, but she poured perfume on my feet.

Wash yourself, put on perfume, change your clothes, and go down to the threshing floor. But don’t let him know you’re there until he has finished his dinner.

Now, I beg you, forgive my sin. Come back with me so I may worship the Lord.”

So Samuel went back with Saul, and Saul worshiped the Lord.
