The people of Judah came together to ask the Lord for help; they came from every town in Judah.

There were people from all the tribes of Israel who wanted to obey the Lord, the God of Israel. So they went to Jerusalem with the Levites to sacrifice to the Lord, the God of their ancestors.

Jehoshaphat appointed judges in all the land, in each of the strong, walled cities of Judah.

The people of Judah and Jerusalem met in front of the new courtyard in the Temple of the Lord. Then Jehoshaphat stood up,

Then if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, if they will pray and seek me and stop their evil ways, I will hear them from heaven. I will forgive their sin, and I will heal their land.

There by the Ahava Canal, I announced we would all fast and deny ourselves before our God. We would ask God for a safe trip for ourselves, our children, and all our possessions.

Call to me in times of trouble. I will save you, and you will honor me.”

I praise God for his word. I trust God, so I am not afraid. What can human beings do to me?

God will save Jerusalem and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will live there and own the land.

Call for a day when everyone fasts! Tell everyone to stop work! Bring the elders and everyone who lives in the land to the Temple of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord.

This is what the Lord says to the nation of Israel: “Come to me and live.

Gather together, gather, you unwanted people.
