But no one can really build a house for our God. Not even the highest of heavens can hold him. How then can I build a temple for him except as a place to burn sacrifices to him?

Then King David went in and sat in front of the Lord. David said, “Lord God, who am I? What is my family? Why did you bring me to this point?

King Solomon sent to Tyre and had Huram brought to him.

Huram’s mother was a widow from the tribe of Naphtali. His father was from Tyre and had been skilled in making things from bronze. Huram was also very skilled and experienced in bronze work. So he came to King Solomon and did all the bronze work.

“But, God, can you really live here on the earth? The sky and the highest place in heaven cannot contain you. Surely this house which I have built cannot contain you.

You have many workmen—stonecutters, bricklayers, carpenters, and people skilled in every kind of work.

“These things did not really come from me and my people. Everything comes from you; we have given you back what you gave us.

Now give me wisdom and knowledge so I can lead these people in the right way, because no one can rule them without your help.”

“But, God, can you really live here on the earth with people? The sky and the highest place in heaven cannot contain you. Surely this house which I have built cannot contain you.

But Moses said to God, “I am not a great man! How can I go to the king and lead the Israelites out of Egypt?”

to cut jewels and put them in metal, to carve wood, and to do all kinds of work.

This is what the Lord says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. So do you think you can build a house for me? Do I need a place to rest?

“No one can hide where I cannot see him,” says the Lord. “I fill all of heaven and earth,” says the Lord.

To those who are lost, we are the smell of death that brings death, but to those who are being saved, we are the smell of life that brings life. So who is able to do this work?

I am the least important of all God’s people, but God gave me this gift—to tell those who are not Jews the Good News about the riches of Christ, which are too great to understand fully.

Then the Lord your God will choose a place where he is to be worshiped. To that place you must bring everything I tell you: your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your offerings of a tenth of what you gain, your special gifts, and all your best things you promised to the Lord.

Offer them only in the place the Lord will choose. He will choose a place in one of your tribes, and there you must do everything I am commanding you.

Take your holy things and the things you have promised to give, and go to the place the Lord will choose.
