1 Samuel 7:12

After this happened Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named the stone Ebenezer, saying, “The Lord has helped us to this point.”

So Abraham named that place The Lord Provides. Even today people say, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”

Jacob set up a stone on edge in that place where God had talked to him, and he poured a drink offering and olive oil on it to make it special for God.

God, you have taught me since I was young. To this day I tell about the miracles you do.

I have depended on you since I was born; you helped me even on the day of my birth. I will always praise you.

Then Moses built an altar and named it The Lord Is My Banner.

So, news about Samuel spread through all of Israel. At that time the Israelites went out to fight the Philistines. The Israelites camped at Ebenezer and the Philistines at Aphek.

After the Philistines had captured the Ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.

The men of Israel ran out of Mizpah and chased the Philistines almost to Beth Car, killing the Philistines along the way.
