He built an altar to the Lord there and offered whole burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. Then the Lord answered his prayer for the country, and the disease in Israel stopped.

King Solomon went to Gibeon to offer a sacrifice, because it was the most important place of worship. He offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.

Wait and trust the Lord. Don’t be upset when others get rich or when someone else’s plans succeed.

The Lord hates the sacrifice that the wicked offer, but he likes the prayers of honest people.

Don’t say, “I’ll pay you back for the wrong you did.” Wait for the Lord, and he will make things right.

The Lord hates sacrifices brought by evil people, particularly when they offer them for the wrong reasons.

Doing what is right and fair is more important to the Lord than sacrifices.

But those people who kill bulls as a sacrifice to me are like those who kill people. Those who kill sheep as a sacrifice are like those who break the necks of dogs. Those who give me grain offerings are like those who offer me the blood of pigs. Those who burn incense are like those who worship idols. These people choose their own ways, not mine, and they love the terrible things they do.

but look for the place the Lord your God will choose—a place among your tribes where he is to be worshiped. Go there,

and bring to that place your burnt offerings and sacrifices; bring a tenth of what you gain and your special gifts; bring what you have promised and the special gifts you want to give the Lord, and bring the first animals born to your herds and flocks.

So Saul said to Ahijah the priest, “Bring the Ark of God.” (At that time it was with the Israelites.)
