Saul gathered the people together at Bezek. There were three hundred thousand men from Israel and thirty thousand men from Judah.

Joab gave the list of the people to the king. There were eight hundred thousand men in Israel who could use the sword and five hundred thousand men in Judah.

So King Joram went out from Samaria and gathered Israel’s army.

The leaders of all the tribes of Israel took their places in the meeting of the people of God. There were 400,000 soldiers with swords.

They said to the messengers who had come, “Tell the people at Jabesh Gilead this: ‘Before the day warms up tomorrow, you will be saved.’ ” So the messengers went and reported this to the people at Jabesh, and they were very happy.

Then Samuel left Gilgal and went to Gibeah in Benjamin. Saul counted the men who were still with him, and there were about six hundred.

So Saul called the army together at Telaim. There were two hundred thousand foot soldiers and ten thousand men from Judah.
