Nonbelievers think it is strange that you do not do the many wild and wasteful things they do, so they insult you.

“How terrible for you, teachers of the law and Pharisees! You are hypocrites! You wash the outside of your cups and dishes, but inside they are full of things you got by cheating others and by pleasing only yourselves.

Then the younger son gathered up all that was his and traveled far away to another country. There he wasted his money in foolish living.

Seeing the crowd, the Jewish people became very jealous and said insulting things and argued against what Paul said.

But they would not accept Paul’s teaching and said some evil things. So he shook off the dust from his clothes and said to them, “If you are not saved, it will be your own fault! I have done all I can do! After this, I will go to other nations.”

Let us live in a right way, like people who belong to the day. We should not have wild parties or get drunk. There should be no sexual sins of any kind, no fighting or jealousy.

Do not be drunk with wine, which will ruin you, but be filled with the Spirit.

People who do not believe are living all around you and might say that you are doing wrong. Live such good lives that they will see the good things you do and will give glory to God on the day when Christ comes again.

but answer in a gentle way and with respect. Keep a clear conscience so that those who speak evil of your good life in Christ will be made ashamed.

But these people speak against things they do not understand. They are like animals that act without thinking, animals born to be caught and killed. And, like animals, these false teachers will be destroyed.

What they did is like this true saying: “A dog goes back to what it has thrown up,” and, “After a pig is washed, it goes back and rolls in the mud.”

But these people speak against things they do not understand. And what they do know, by feeling, as dumb animals know things, are the very things that destroy them.
