David always did what the Lord said was right and obeyed his commands all his life, except the one time when David sinned against Uriah the Hittite.

If you follow me and obey my laws and commands, as your father David did, I will also give you a long life.”

Solomon showed he loved the Lord by following the commands his father David had given him, except many other places of worship were still used to offer sacrifices and to burn incense.

Solomon answered, “You were very kind to your servant, my father David. He obeyed you, and he was honest and lived right. You showed great kindness to him when you allowed his son to be king after him.

“If you obey all my laws and commands, I will do for you what I promised your father David.

Now Lord, God of Israel, keep the promise you made to your servant David, my father. You said, ‘If your sons are careful to obey me as you have obeyed me, there will always be someone from your family ruling Israel.’

“Lord, please remember that I have always obeyed you. I have given myself completely to you and have done what you said was right.” Then Hezekiah cried loudly.

The honest person will live in safety, but the dishonest will be caught.

The good people who live honest lives will be a blessing to their children.

Innocent people will be kept safe, but those who are dishonest will suddenly be ruined.

He lives by my rules and obeys my laws faithfully. Whoever does these things is good and will surely live, says the Lord God.

“This is what the Lord All-Powerful says: ‘If you do as I tell you and serve me, you will be in charge of my Temple and my courtyards. And I will let you be with these angels who are standing here.

Zechariah and Elizabeth truly did what God said was good. They did everything the Lord commanded and were without fault in keeping his law.

You must completely obey the Lord your God, and you must carefully follow all his commands I am giving you today. Then the Lord your God will make you greater than any other nation on earth.
