They declared a special day on which the people were to fast. And they put Naboth in a place of honor before the people.

But God warned the wise men in a dream not to go back to Herod, so they returned to their own country by a different way.

When Herod saw that the wise men had tricked him, he was furious. So he gave an order to kill all the baby boys in Bethlehem and in the surrounding area who were two years old or younger. This was in keeping with the time he learned from the wise men.

But Peter and John answered them, “You decide what God would want. Should we obey you or God?

Peter and the other apostles answered, “We must obey God, not human authority!

Then he told the guards at his side, “Go and kill the priests of the Lord, because they are on David’s side. They knew he was running away, but they didn’t tell me.” But the king’s officers refused to kill the priests of the Lord.

Now, our king, come down anytime you want. It’s our duty to hand David over to you.”
