The people built stone pillars and places to worship gods and Asherah idols on every high hill and under every green tree.

This is what you should do. Don’t allow the thirty-two rulers to command the armies, but put other commanders in their places.

Lord, you are my strength and my protection, my safe place in times of trouble. The nations will come to you from all over the world and say, “Our ancestors had only false gods, useless idols that didn’t help them.

How terrible it will be for us! Who can save us from these powerful gods? They are the ones who struck the Egyptians with all kinds of disasters in the desert.
