That same day the man of God gave proof that these things would happen. “This is the Lord’s sign that this will happen,” he said. “This altar will break apart, and the ashes on it will fall to the ground.”

When King Jeroboam heard what the man of God said about the altar in Bethel, the king raised his hand from the altar and pointed at the man. “Take him!” he said. But when the king said this, his arm was paralyzed, and he could not move it.

Hezekiah had asked Isaiah, “What will be the sign that the Lord will heal me and that I will go up to the Temple of the Lord on the third day?”

Then Moses answered, “What if the people of Israel do not believe me or listen to me? What if they say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you’?”

So Moses and Aaron went to the king as the Lord had commanded. Aaron threw his walking stick down in front of the king and his officers, and it became a snake.

Hezekiah then asked Isaiah, “What will be the sign? What will show that I will go up to the Temple of the Lord?”

I will give you a sign that I will punish you here in Egypt,’ says the Lord. ‘When you see it happen, you will know that my promises to hurt you will really happen.’

Some of his people said to Jesus, “Show us a miracle to prove you have the right to do these things.”

The Jews ask for miracles, and the Greeks want wisdom.

Then Gideon said to the Lord, “If you are pleased with me, give me proof that it is really you talking with me.

“ ‘I will give you a sign. Both your sons, Hophni and Phinehas, will die on the same day.
