When the queen of Sheba heard about Solomon, she came to test him with hard questions.

The sons of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.

Jokshan was the father of Sheba and Dedan. Dedan’s descendants were the people of Assyria, Letush, and Leum.

People everywhere wanted to see King Solomon and listen to the wisdom God had given him.

He was wiser than anyone on earth. He was even wiser than Ethan the Ezrahite, as well as Heman, Calcol, and Darda—the three sons of Mahol. King Solomon became famous in all the surrounding countries.

People from all nations came to listen to King Solomon’s wisdom. The kings of all nations sent them to him, because they had heard of Solomon’s wisdom.

He sent a group of ten thousand men each month to Lebanon. Each group worked in Lebanon one month, then went home for two months. A man named Adoniram was in charge.

Then he said to humans, ‘The fear of the Lord is wisdom; to stay away from evil is understanding.’ ”

The groups of travelers from Tema look for water, and the traders of Sheba look hopefully.

I will pay attention to a wise saying; I will explain my riddle on the harp.

Let the kings of Tarshish and the faraway lands bring him gifts. Let the kings of Sheba and Seba bring their presents to him.

Long live the king! Let him receive gold from Sheba. Let people always pray for him and bless him all day long.

Herds of camels will cover your land, young camels from Midian and Ephah. People will come from Sheba bringing gold and incense, and they will sing praises to the Lord.

Why do you bring me offerings of incense from the land of Sheba? Why do you bring me sweet-smelling cane from a faraway land? Your burnt offerings will not be accepted; your sacrifices do not please me.”

Then you became famous among the nations, because you were so beautiful. Your beauty was perfect, because of the glory I gave you, says the Lord God.

Sheba, Dedan, and the traders of Tarshish, with all its villages, will say to you, “Did you come to capture treasure? Did you bring your troops together to take loot? Did you bring them to carry away silver and gold and to take away farm animals and property?” ’

On the Judgment Day, the Queen of the South will stand up with you people who live today. She will show that you are guilty, because she came from far away to listen to Solomon’s wise teaching. And I tell you that someone greater than Solomon is here.

Jesus answered, “You have been chosen to know the secrets about the kingdom of heaven, but others cannot know these secrets.

This is as the prophet said: “I will speak using stories; I will tell things that have been secret since the world was made.”

He always used stories to teach them. But when he and his followers were alone, Jesus explained everything to them.

On the Judgment Day the Queen of the South will stand up with the people who live now. She will show they are guilty, because she came from far away to listen to Solomon’s wise teaching. And I tell you that someone greater than Solomon is here.

And this is eternal life: that people know you, the only true God, and that they know Jesus Christ, the One you sent.
