Absalom did not say a word, good or bad, to Amnon. But he hated Amnon for disgracing his sister Tamar.

“You know nothing. You don’t understand. You walk in the dark, while the world is falling apart.

“ ‘You must not hate your fellow citizen in your heart. If your neighbor does something wrong, tell him about it, or you will be partly to blame.

Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin. But since you keep saying you see, your guilt remains.”

During this time there was a meeting of the believers (about one hundred twenty of them). Peter stood up and said,

But anyone who does not have these things cannot see clearly. He is blind and has forgotten that he was made clean from his past sins.

So if we say we have fellowship with God, but we continue living in darkness, we are liars and do not follow the truth.

But whoever hates a brother or sister is in darkness, lives in darkness, and does not know where to go, because the darkness has made that person blind.

Anyone who says, “I know God,” but does not obey God’s commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.

So we can see who God’s children are and who the devil’s children are: Those who do not do what is right are not God’s children, and those who do not love their brothers and sisters are not God’s children.

If people say, “I love God,” but hate their brothers or sisters, they are liars. Those who do not love their brothers and sisters, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have never seen.
