If others have the right to get something from you, surely we have this right, too. But we do not use it. No, we put up with everything ourselves so that we will not keep anyone from believing the Good News of Christ.

And I will continue doing what I am doing now, because I want to stop those people from having a reason to brag. They would like to say that the work they brag about is the same as ours.

So what reward do I get? This is my reward: that when I tell the Good News I can offer it freely. I do not use my full rights in my work of preaching the Good News.

But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing this now to get anything from you. I would rather die than to have my reason for bragging taken away.

If others do not accept me as an apostle, surely you do, because you are proof that I am an apostle in the Lord.

You are even patient with those who order you around, or use you, or trick you, or think they are better than you, or hit you in the face.

We do not want anyone to find fault with our work, so nothing we do will be a problem for anyone.

The fact that you have lawsuits against each other shows that you are already defeated. Why not let yourselves be wronged? Why not let yourselves be cheated?

This is the reason I was stopped many times from coming to you.

Because they were tentmakers, just as he was, he stayed with them and worked with them.

“How terrible for you, you experts on the law. You have taken away the key to learning about God. You yourselves would not learn, and you stopped others from learning, too.”

So they all made plans to come to Jerusalem and fight and stir up trouble.

But the servant said to them, “Do not make me wait, because the Lord has made my trip successful. Now let me go back to my master.”

In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who tell the Good News should get their living from this work.

Telling the Good News does not give me any reason for bragging. Telling the Good News is my duty—something I must do. And how terrible it will be for me if I do not tell the Good News.

Love patiently accepts all things. It always trusts, always hopes, and always endures.

When I came to Troas to preach the Good News of Christ, the Lord gave me a good opportunity there.
