We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are very wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You receive honor, but we are shamed.

So when I came to you, I was weak and fearful and trembling.

While Paul was saying these things to defend himself, Festus said loudly, “Paul, you are out of your mind! Too much study has driven you crazy!”

Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers argued with him, saying, “This man doesn’t know what he is talking about. What is he trying to say?” Others said, “He seems to be telling us about some other gods,” because Paul was telling them about Jesus and his rising from the dead.

When people insult you because you follow Christ, you are blessed, because the glorious Spirit, the Spirit of God, is with you.

We are happy to be weak, if you are strong, and we pray that you will become complete.

Do not fool yourselves. If you think you are wise in this world, you should become a fool so that you can become truly wise,

So the person who refuses to obey this teaching is disobeying God, not simply a human teaching. And God is the One who gives us his Holy Spirit.

I feel weak every time someone is weak, and I feel upset every time someone is led into sin.

You are wise, so you will gladly be patient with fools!

Some people say, “Paul’s letters are powerful and sound important, but when he is with us, he is weak. And his speaking is nothing.”

If you think you are strong, you should be careful not to fall.

You think you already have everything you need. You think you are rich. You think you have become kings without us. I wish you really were kings so we could be kings together with you.

The teaching I gave you was like milk, not solid food, because you were not able to take solid food. And even now you are not ready.

A person who does not have the Spirit does not accept the truths that come from the Spirit of God. That person thinks they are foolish and cannot understand them, because they can only be judged to be true by the Spirit.

When the people heard about Jesus being raised from the dead, some of them laughed. But others said, “We will hear more about this from you later.”

I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.”

Jesus told this story to some people who thought they were very good and looked down on everyone else:

“Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever refuses to accept you refuses to accept me. And whoever refuses to accept me refuses to accept the One who sent me.”

“People will hate you, shut you out, insult you, and say you are evil because you follow the Son of Man. But when they do, you will be blessed.

“Then people will arrest you, hand you over to be hurt, and kill you. They will hate you because you believe in me.

“People will insult you and hurt you. They will lie and say all kinds of evil things about you because you follow me. But when they do, you will be blessed.

The time of punishment has come, the time to pay for sins. Let Israel know this: You think the prophet is a fool, and you say the spiritual person is crazy. You have sinned very much, and your hatred is great.

He was hated and rejected by people. He had much pain and suffering. People would not even look at him. He was hated, and we didn’t even notice him.

People without good sense find fault with their neighbors, but those with understanding keep quiet.

When Jehu went back to his master’s officers, one of them said to Jehu, “Is everything all right? Why did this crazy man come to you?” Jehu answered, “You know the man and how he talks.”

In the wisdom of God the world did not know God through its own wisdom. So God chose to use the message that sounds foolish to save those who believe.

But we preach a crucified Christ. This causes the Jews to stumble and is foolishness to non-Jews.

Even the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

Some people honor us, but others blame us. Some people say evil things about us, but others say good things. Some people say we are liars, but we speak the truth.

So death is working in us, but life is working in you.
