These are Manasseh’s descendants. Manasseh had an Aramean slave woman, who was the mother of Asriel and Makir. Makir was Gilead’s father.

When Isaac was forty years old, he married Rebekah, who came from Northwest Mesopotamia. She was Bethuel’s daughter and the sister of Laban the Aramean.

During Joseph’s life Ephraim had children and grandchildren, and Joseph’s son Manasseh had a son named Makir. Joseph accepted Makir’s children as his own.
