¶‘Have you not heard? Long ago I did it; From ancient times I planned it. Now I have brought it about, That you would turn fortified cities into ruined heaps.

“The memory of him perishes from the earth, And he has no name abroad.

The face of the Lord is against evildoers, To eliminate the memory of them from the earth.

The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears And rescues them from all their troubles.

He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariots with fire.

Let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it; And let him trample my life to the ground And lay my glory in the dust. Selah

From the mouths of infants and nursing babies You have established strength Because of Your enemies, To do away with the enemy and the revengeful.

But Moses said to the people, “Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will perform for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again, ever.

“Terror and dread fall upon them; By the greatness of Your arm they are motionless as stone, Until Your people pass over, Lord, Until the people pass over whom You have purchased.

Who made the world like a wilderness And overthrew its cities, Who did not allow his prisoners to go home?’

The dead will not live, the departed spirits will not rise; Therefore You have punished and destroyed them, And You have eliminated all remembrance of them.

“Have you not heard? Long ago I did it, From ancient times I planned it. Now I have brought it about That you would turn fortified cities into ruined heaps.

“Behold, I am against you, mountain of destruction That destroys the whole earth,” declares the Lord, “And I will stretch out My hand against you, And roll you down from the rocky cliffs, And I will make you a burnt out mountain.

Then my enemy will see, And shame will cover her who said to me, “Where is the Lord your God?” My eyes will look at her; At that time she will be trampled down Like mud of the streets.

Do not rejoice over me, enemy of mine. Though I fall I will rise; Though I live in darkness, the Lord is a light for me.

The last enemy that will be abolished is death.

And he took hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years;

Then it happened, when David and his men came to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had carried out an attack on the Negev and on Ziklag, and had overthrown Ziklag and burned it with fire;

Now when the people of Israel who were on the other side of the valley, with those who were beyond the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned the cities and fled; then the Philistines came and settled in them.
