In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and they shall serve as signs and for seasons, and for days and years;

So they had their father drink wine that night too, and the younger got up and slept with him; and he did not know when she lay down or got up.

Then the Lord took note of Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as He had promised.

“But will God really dwell with mankind on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain You; how much less this house which I have built!

How much less man, that maggot, And a son of man, that worm!”

“What is man that You exalt him, And that You are concerned about him,

¶Remember me, Lord, in Your favor toward Your people. Visit me with Your salvation,

To Him who made the heavens with skill, For His faithfulness is everlasting;

The moon and stars to rule by night, For His faithfulness is everlasting.

Lord, what is man, that You look after him? Or a son of man, that You think of him?

Do not trust in noblemen, In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation.

Day to day pours forth speech, And night to night reveals knowledge.

¶You sons of man, how long will my honor be treated as an insult? How long will you love what is worthless and strive for a lie? Selah

Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, Upon the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself.

For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the Lord made the heavens.

So the people believed; and when they heard that the Lord was concerned about the sons of Israel and that He had seen their affliction, they bowed low and worshiped.

All the nations are as nothing before Him, They are regarded by Him as less than nothing and meaningless.

¶“I, I Myself, am He who comforts you. Who are you that you are afraid of mortal man, And of a son of man who is made like grass,

And He said to me, “Do you see this, son of man? Yet you will see still greater abominations than these!”

And Jesus *said to him, “The foxes have holes and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people,

and they will level you to the ground, and throw down your children within you, and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”

Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God on the day of visitation.
