Then Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The advice of Hushai the Archite is better than the advice of Ahithophel.” For the Lord had ordained to foil the good advice of Ahithophel, in order for the Lord to bring disaster on Absalom.

¶The Lord performs righteous deeds And judgments for all who are oppressed.

“Because of the devastation of the poor, because of the groaning of the needy, Now I will arise,” says the Lord; “I will put him in the safety for which he longs.”

¶Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will reach out with Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me.

For the enemy has persecuted my soul; He has crushed my life to the ground; He has made me dwell in dark places, like those who have long been dead.

¶Arise, Lord; save me, my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheek; You have shattered the teeth of the wicked.

Contend, Lord, with those who contend with me; Fight against those who fight against me.

Stir Yourself, and awake to my right And to my cause, my God and my Lord.

Wake Yourself up, why do You sleep, Lord? Awake, do not reject us forever.

Rise up, be our help, And redeem us because of Your mercy.

You, Lord God of armies, the God of Israel, Awake to punish all the nations; Do not be gracious to any who deal treacherously in wrongdoing. Selah

Like a dream when one awakes, Lord, when stirred, You will despise their image.

Step toward the irreparable ruins; The enemy has damaged everything in the sanctuary.

¶Then the Lord awoke as if from sleep, Like a warrior overcome by wine.

¶The Lord arises to contend, And stands to judge the people.

“Now I will arise,” says the Lord, “Now I will be exalted, now I will be lifted up.

But now Lord, our God, save us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone, Lord, are God.”

¶Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord; Awake as in the days of old, the generations of long ago. Was it not You who cut Rahab in pieces, Who pierced the dragon?
