But Barzillai said to the king, “How long do I still have to live, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem?

“My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, And they come to an end without hope.

Man is like the breath; His days are like a passing shadow.

“With rebukes You punish a person for wrongdoing; You consume like a moth what is precious to him; Certainly all mankind is mere breath! Selah

¶People of low standing are only breath, and people of rank are a lie; In the balances they go up. Together they are lighter than breath.

Remember what my lifespan is; For what futility You have created all the sons of mankind!

So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.

“Futility of futilities,” says the Preacher, “Futility of futilities! All is futility.”

So I considered all my activities which my hands had done and the labor which I had exerted, and behold, all was futility and striving after wind, and there was no benefit under the sun.

All the nations are as nothing before Him, They are regarded by Him as less than nothing and meaningless.

Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. For you are just a vapor that appears for a little while, and then vanishes away.

But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.
