All who see me deride me; They sneer, they shake their heads, saying,

“I am a joke to my friends, The one who called on God and He answered him; The just and blameless man is a joke.

“They have gaped at me with their mouths, They have slapped me on the cheek with contempt; They have massed themselves against me.

“I too could speak like you, If only I were in your place. I could compose words against you And shake my head at you.

I also have become a disgrace to them; When they see me, they shake their head.

Let the lying lips be speechless, Which speak arrogantly against the righteous With pride and contempt.

You make us a proverb among the nations, A laughingstock among the peoples.

This is what the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel and its Holy One, Says to the despised One, To the One abhorred by the nation, To the Servant of rulers: “Kings will see and arise, Princes will also bow down, Because of the Lord who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel who has chosen You.”

He was despised and abandoned by men, A man of great pain and familiar with sickness; And like one from whom people hide their faces, He was despised, and we had no regard for Him.

“Of whom do you make fun? Against whom do you open wide your mouth And stick out your tongue? Are you not children of rebellion, Offspring of deceit,

And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and put a reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”

He said, “Leave; for the girl has not died, but is asleep.” And they began laughing at Him.

And after they had mocked Him, they took the purple cloak off Him and put His own garments on Him. And they *led Him out to crucify Him.

Those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, shaking their heads and saying, “Ha! You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,

Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things and were ridiculing Him.

And Herod, together with his soldiers, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, dressing Him in a brightly shining robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.
