Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living person.

By the sweat of your face You shall eat bread, Until you return to the ground, Because from it you were taken; For you are dust, And to dust you shall return.”

Now behold, I Myself am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which there is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall perish.

“But a man dies and lies prostrate. A person passes away, and where is he?

“His sons achieve honor, but he does not know it; Or they become insignificant, and he does not perceive it.

“My spirit is broken, my days are extinguished, The grave is ready for me.

“My days are past, my plans are torn apart, The wishes of my heart.

For as long as life is in me, And the breath of God is in my nostrils,

You hide Your face, they are terrified; You take away their breath, they perish And return to their dust.

The Lord nullifies the plan of nations; He frustrates the plans of peoples.

¶You turn mortals back into dust And say, “Return, you sons of mankind.”

then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.

Indeed their love, their hate, and their zeal have already perished, and they will no longer have a share in all that is done under the sun.

Take no account of man, whose breath of life is in his nostrils; For why should he be esteemed?

The breath of our nostrils, the Lord’s anointed, Was captured in their pits, Of whom we had said, “In his shadow We shall live among the nations.”

but you have risen up against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your nobles, your wives, and your concubines have been drinking wine out of them; and you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor understand. But the God in whose hand are your life-breath and all your ways, you have not glorified.

Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away;
