Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” And the woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

¶My soul is among lions; I must lie among those who devour, Among sons of mankind whose teeth are spears and arrows, And their tongue is a sharp sword.

They have venom like the venom of a serpent; Like a deaf cobra that stops up its ear,

Behold, they gush forth with their mouths; Swords are in their lips, For, they say, “Who hears?”

There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword, But the tongue of the wise brings healing.

In the end it bites like a snake And stings like a viper.

Who, with perversion in his heart, continually devises evil, Who spreads strife.

Offending and denying the Lord, And turning away from our God, Speaking oppression and revolt, Conceiving and uttering lying words from the heart.

“They bend their tongues like their bows; Lies and not truth prevail in the land; For they proceed from evil to evil, And they do not know Me,” declares the Lord.

“Everyone deceives his neighbor And does not speak the truth. They have taught their tongue to speak lies; They weary themselves committing wrongdoing.

The lips of my assailants and their talk Are against me all day long.

You offspring of vipers, how can you, being evil, express any good things? For the mouth speaks from that which fills the heart.

But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his trickery, your minds will be led astray from sincere and pure devotion to Christ.
