And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it; but as he was about to destroy it, the Lord saw and was sorry about the catastrophe, and said to the destroying angel, “It is enough; now relax your hand.” And the angel of the Lord was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

He summons the heavens above, And the earth, to judge His people:

The Lord judges the peoples; Vindicate me, Lord, according to my righteousness and my integrity that is in me.

¶Do return, Lord; how long will it be? And be sorry for Your servants.

Before the Lord, for He is coming, For He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, And the peoples in His faithfulness.

The Lord relented of this. “It shall not be,” said the Lord.

The Lord relented of this. “This too shall not be,” said the Lord God.

Then he prayed to the Lord and said, “Please Lord, was this not what I said when I was still in my own country? Therefore in anticipation of this I fled to Tarshish, since I knew that You are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abundant in mercy, and One who relents of disaster.

“For the Lord will vindicate His people, And will have compassion on His servants, When He sees that their strength is gone, And there is none remaining, bond or free.

So they removed the foreign gods from among them and served the Lord; and He could no longer endure the misery of Israel.
