Psalm 127:1

I cried to the Lord in my trouble, And He answered me.

I will raise my eyes to the mountains; From where will my help come?

I was glad when they said to me, “Let’s go to the house of the Lord.”

To You I have raised my eyes, You who are enthroned in the heavens!

“Had it not been the Lord who was on our side,” Let Israel say,

Those who trust in the Lord Are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved but remains forever.

When the Lord brought back the captives of Zion, We were like those who dream.

Give the king Your judgments, God, And Your righteousness to the king’s son.

And He built His sanctuary like the heights, Like the earth which He has established forever.

The mind of a person plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.

I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift and the battle is not to the warriors, and neither is bread to the wise nor wealth to the discerning, nor favor to the skillful; for time and chance overtake them all.

“The watchmen who make the rounds in the city found me, And I said, ‘Have you seen him whom my soul loves?’

“The watchmen who make the rounds in the city found me, They struck me and wounded me; The guards of the walls took my shawl away from me.

“I, the Lord, am its keeper; I water it every moment. So that no one will damage it, I guard it night and day.

His watchmen are blind, All of them know nothing. All of them are mute dogs unable to bark, Dreamers lying down, who love to slumber;

¶On your walls, Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen; All day and all night they will never keep silent. You who profess the Lord, take no rest for yourselves;

Lift up a signal flag against the walls of Babylon; Post a strong guard, Station sentries, Set up an ambush! For the Lord has both planned and performed What He spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.

One courier runs to meet another, And one messenger to meet another, To tell the king of Babylon That his city has been captured from end to end;

and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain, your faith also is in vain.

So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth.

I fear for you, that perhaps I have labored over you in vain.

But you are to remember the Lord your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, in order to confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

But it was told to the king of Jericho, saying, “Behold, men from the sons of Israel have come here tonight to spy out the land.”
