Those who seek my life lay snares for me; And those who seek to injure me have threatened destruction, And they plot deception all day long.

And when he comes to see me, he speaks empty words; His heart gathers wickedness to itself; When he goes outside, he tells it.

For there is nothing trustworthy in their mouth; Their inward part is destruction itself. Their throat is an open grave; They flatter with their tongue.

His speech was smoother than butter, But his heart was war; His words were softer than oil, Yet they were drawn swords.

On account of the sin of their mouths and the words of their lips, May they even be caught in their pride, And on account of curses and lies which they tell.

They have planned only to thrust him down from his high position; They delight in falsehood; They bless with their mouth, But inwardly they curse. Selah

One who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets; Therefore do not associate with a gossip.

Many a person proclaims his own loyalty, But who can find a trustworthy person?

A man who flatters his neighbor Is spreading a net for his steps.

And you shall say to them, ‘This is the nation that did not obey the voice of the Lord their God or accept discipline; trustworthiness has perished and has been eliminated from their mouth.

“Their tongue is a deadly arrow; It speaks deceit; With his mouth one speaks peace to his neighbor, But inwardly he sets an ambush for him.

For there will no longer be any false vision or deceptive divination within the house of Israel.

The godly person has perished from the land, And there is no upright person among mankind. All of them lie in wait for bloodshed; Each of them hunts the other with a net.

For such people are slaves, not of our Lord Christ but of their own appetites; and by their smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting.

For we never came with flattering speech, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed—God is our witness—

being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
