“For my groaning comes at the sight of my food, And my cries pour out like water.

Why are you in despair, my soul? And why are you restless within me? Wait for God, for I will again praise Him For the help of His presence, my God.

My tears have been my food day and night, While they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”

They also gave me a bitter herb in my food, And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

You have fed them with the bread of tears, And You have made them drink tears in large measure.

He feeds on ashes; a deceived heart has misled him. And he cannot save himself, nor say, “Is there not a lie in my right hand?”

Do not tell it in Gath, Do not weep at all. At Beth-le-aphrah roll yourself in the dust in mourning.

They will lick up dust like a snake, Like reptiles of the earth. They will come trembling out of their fortresses; To the Lord our God they will come in trepidation, And they will be afraid of You.
