And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, “If the men have come to call you, rise and go with them; but you shall do only the thing that I tell you.”

“So I gave them over to the stubbornness of their heart, To walk by their own plans.

“Because of your raging against Me And because your complacency has come up to My ears, I will put My hook in your nose And My bridle in your lips, And I will turn you back by the way that you came.

But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’ Because everywhere I send you, you shall go, And all that I command you, you shall speak.

I gave you a king in My anger, And took him away in My wrath.

Now please, you also stay here tonight, and I will find out what else the Lord will say to me.”

But the angel of the Lord said to Balaam, “Go with the men, but you shall speak only the word that I tell you.” So Balaam went along with the representatives of Balak.

He replied, “Must I not be careful to speak what the Lord puts in my mouth?”

Then the Lord met Balaam and put a word in his mouth, and said, “Return to Balak, and this is what you shall speak.”

But Balaam replied to Balak, “Did I not tell you, ‘Whatever the Lord speaks, I must do’?”

Then the Lord put a word in Balaam’s mouth and said, “Return to Balak, and this is what you shall speak.”

‘If Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not do anything contrary to the command of the Lord, either good or bad, of my own accord. What the Lord speaks, I will speak’?

The declaration of him who hears the words of God, Who sees the vision of the Almighty, Falling down, yet having his eyes uncovered,
