But the Lord said to Moses, “Put the staff of Aaron back in front of the testimony to be kept as a sign against the rebels, so that you may put an end to their grumblings against Me and they do not die.”

Then Moses said, “This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘A full omer of it is to be kept safe throughout your generations, so that they may see the bread that I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.’ ”

As the Lord commanded Moses, so Aaron placed it before the Testimony, to be kept.

as a reminder to the sons of Israel so that no layman, anyone who was not of the descendants of Aaron, would approach to burn incense before the Lord; then he would not become like Korah and his group—just as the Lord had spoken to him through Moses.

Moses did so; just as the Lord had commanded him, so he did.

You shall then leave them in the tent of meeting in front of the testimony, where I meet with you.

Moses then brought out all the staffs from the presence of the Lord to all the sons of Israel; and they looked, and each man took his staff.

So Moses took the staff from before the Lord, just as He had commanded him;

“Do not let the tribe of the families of the Kohathites be eliminated from among the Levites.

Nor grumble, as some of them did, and were killed by the destroyer.

See that no one deceives you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

You have been rebellious toward the Lord since the day I knew you.

Remember, do not forget how you provoked the Lord your God to anger in the wilderness; from the day that you left the land of Egypt until you arrived at this place, you have been rebellious against the Lord.

having a golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, in which was a golden jar holding the manna, Aaron’s staff which budded, and the tablets of the covenant;

Now the sons of Eli were useless men; they did not know the Lord.

Then all the wicked and worthless men among those who went with David said, “Since they did not go with us, we will not give them any of the spoils that we have recovered, except to every man his wife and his children, so that they may lead them away and leave.”
