And Jesus said to them, “The attendants of the groom cannot mourn as long as the groom is with them, can they? But the days will come when the groom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.

¶Therefore on that day the Lord God of armies called you to weeping, to wailing, To shaving the head, and to wearing sackcloth.

Then the disciples of John *came to Him, asking, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?”

But no one puts a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and a worse tear results.

And Jesus said to them, “While the groom is with them, the attendants of the groom cannot fast, can they? As long as they have the groom with them, they cannot fast.

But the days will come when the groom is taken away from them, and then they will fast, on that day.

And He said to the disciples, “The days will come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it.

And Jesus said to them, “You cannot make the attendants of the groom fast while the groom is with them, can you?

But the days will come; and when the groom is taken away from them, then they will fast in those days.”

But because I have said these things to you, grief has filled your heart.

He who has the bride is the groom; but the friend of the groom, who stands and listens to him, rejoices greatly because of the groom’s voice. So this joy of mine has been made full.

When they had appointed elders for them in every church, having prayed with fasting, they entrusted them to the Lord in whom they had believed.

Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure.

Then he *said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.’ ” And he *said to me, “These are the true words of God.”

And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
