“So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, so that they will be praised by people. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.

He has given freely to the poor, His righteousness endures forever; His horn will be exalted in honor.

The wicked borrows and does not pay back, But the righteous is gracious and gives.

One who is gracious to a poor person lends to the Lord, And He will repay him for his good deed.

Many a person proclaims his own loyalty, But who can find a trustworthy person?

Divide your portion to seven, or even to eight, for you do not know what misfortune may occur on the earth.

I send it against a godless nation And commission it against the people of My fury To capture spoils and to seize plunder, And to trample them down like mud in the streets.

“Is it not to break your bread with the hungry And bring the homeless poor into the house; When you see the naked, to cover him; And not to hide yourself from your own flesh?

Therefore the Lord does not rejoice over their young men, Nor does He have compassion on their orphans or their widows; For every one of them is godless and an evildoer, And every mouth is speaking foolishness. In spite of all this, His anger does not turn away, And His hand is still stretched out.

Put the trumpet to your lips! Like an eagle the enemy comes against the house of the Lord, Because they have violated My covenant And rebelled against My Law.

You hypocrites, rightly did Isaiah prophesy about you, by saying:

And in the morning, ‘There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but are you unable to discern the signs of the times?

But Jesus perceived their malice, and said, “Why are you testing Me, you hypocrites?

And they do all their deeds to be noticed by other people; for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels of their garments.

And they love the place of honor at banquets, and the seats of honor in the synagogues,

and he will cut him in two and assign him a place with the hypocrites; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke of a letter shall pass from the Law, until all is accomplished!

“Now whenever you fast, do not make a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they distort their faces so that they will be noticed by people when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.

But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,

“And when you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they will be seen by people. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.

You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye!

and seats of honor in the synagogues, and places of honor at banquets,

But He said to them, “Rightly did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far away from Me.

But give that which is within as a charitable gift, and then all things are clean for you.

Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the seat of honor in the synagogues and personal greetings in the marketplaces.

“Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves money belts that do not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near nor does a moth destroy.

You hypocrites! You know how to analyze the appearance of the earth and the sky, but how is it that you do not know how to analyze this present time?

But the Lord answered him and said, “You hypocrites, does each of you on the Sabbath not untie his ox or donkey from the stall and lead it away to water it?

“Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love personal greetings in the marketplaces, and chief seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets,

But woe to you who are rich, for you are receiving your comfort in full.

How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye.

For some were assuming, since Judas kept the money box, that Jesus was saying to him, “Buy the things we need for the feast”; or else, that he was to give something to the poor.

I do not receive glory from people;

How can you believe, when you accept glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God?

The one who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, and made many charitable contributions to the Jewish people and prayed to God continually.

and he *said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your charitable gifts have been remembered before God.

And he looked at him intently and became terrified, and said, “What is it, lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and charitable gifts have ascended as a memorial offering before God.

And to the extent that any of the disciples had means, each of them determined to send a contribution for the relief of the brothers and sisters living in Judea.

Now after several years I came to bring charitable gifts to my nation and to present offerings,

Now in Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which when translated means Dorcas); this woman was excelling in acts of kindness and charity which she did habitually.

or the one who exhorts, in the work of exhortation; the one who gives, with generosity; the one who is in leadership, with diligence; the one who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

And if I give away all my possessions to charity, and if I surrender my body so that I may glory, but do not have love, it does me no good.

They only asked us to remember the poor—the very thing I also was eager to do.

The one who steals must no longer steal; but rather he must labor, producing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with the one who has need.

nor did we seek honor from people, either from you or from others, though we could have asserted our authority as apostles of Christ.

Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share,

For I have had great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother.

And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

Whoever speaks is to do so as one who is speaking actual words of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Then Saul said, “I have sinned; but please honor me now before the elders of my people and before all Israel, and go back with me, so that I may worship the Lord your God.”
