and do not assume that you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father’; for I tell you that God is able, from these stones, to raise up children for Abraham.

“Son of man, they who live in these ruins in the land of Israel are saying, ‘Abraham was only one, yet he possessed the land; so to us who are many the land has been given as a possession.’

For from within, out of the hearts of people, come the evil thoughts, acts of sexual immorality, thefts, murders, acts of adultery,

And he began thinking to himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?’

And he cried out and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus, so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.’

Jesus replied, “I tell you, if these stop speaking, the stones will cry out!”

Therefore produce fruits that are consistent with repentance, and do not start saying to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father,’ for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children for Abraham.

But Jesus, aware of their thoughts, responded and said to them, “Why are you thinking this way in your hearts?

Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself, “If this Man were a prophet He would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching Him, that she is a sinner!”

They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, ‘You will become free’?”

I know that you are Abraham’s descendants; yet you are seeking to kill Me, because My word has no place in you.

You are not greater than our father Abraham, who died, are You? The prophets died too. Whom do You make Yourself out to be?”

“Brothers, sons of Abraham’s family, and those among you who fear God, to us the message of this salvation has been sent.

Simeon has described how God first concerned Himself about taking a people for His name from among the Gentiles.

What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, has found?
