One who trusts in his own heart is a fool, But one who walks wisely will flee to safety.

A person’s pride will bring him low, But a humble spirit will obtain honor.

The fear of man brings a snare, But one who trusts in the Lord will be protected.

¶“Of whom were you worried and fearful When you lied, and did not remember Me Nor give Me a thought? Was I not silent, even for a long time, So you do not fear Me?

¶“The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?

And behold, one of those who were with Jesus reached and drew his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his ear.

But all this has taken place so that the Scriptures of the prophets will be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left Him and fled.

But Peter was following Him at a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest, and he came inside and sat down with the officers to see the outcome.

Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard, and a slave woman came to him and said, “You too were with Jesus the Galilean.”

When he had gone out to the gateway, another slave woman saw him and *said to those who were there, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.”

But he denied it, saying, “I do not know Him, woman!”

Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear;

Therefore let the one who thinks he stands watch out that he does not fall.

But for the cowardly, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and sexually immoral persons, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
