At that time the chief priests and the elders of the people were gathered together in the courtyard of the high priest named Caiaphas;

And while He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came accompanied by a large crowd with swords and clubs, who came from the chief priests and elders of the people.

Now when morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people conferred together against Jesus to put Him to death;

for He was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.

And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise from the dead.

The scribes and the chief priests tried to lay hands on Him that very hour, and yet they feared the people; for they were aware that He had spoken this parable against them.

Now the chief priests and the scribes stood there, vehemently charging Him.

So Judas, having obtained the Roman cohort and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, *came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.

Jesus answered and said to him, “You are the teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand these things?

The Pharisees heard the crowd whispering these things about Him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest Him.

Now the scribes and the Pharisees *brought a woman caught in the act of adultery, and after placing her in the center of the courtyard,

And a great uproar occurred; and some of the scribes of the Pharisaic party stood up and started arguing heatedly, saying, “We find nothing wrong with this man; suppose a spirit or an angel has spoken to him?”

On the next day, their rulers and elders and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem;

And they stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes, and they came up to him and dragged him away, and brought him before the Council.
