Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure And washed my hands in innocence;

“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.

Then the Lord said, “Because this people approaches Me with their words And honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far away from Me, And their reverence for Me consists of the commandment of men that is taught;

After Jesus called the crowd to Him, He said to them, “Hear and understand!

‘And in vain do they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’

by which you also are saved, if you hold firmly to the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.

“Whatever I command you, you shall be careful to do; you shall not add to nor take anything away from it.

nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which give rise to useless speculation rather than advance the plan of God, which is by faith, so I urge you now.

not paying attention to Jewish myths and commandments of men who turn away from the truth.

Do not be misled by varied and strange teachings; for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, through which those who were so occupied were not benefited.

But are you willing to acknowledge, you foolish person, that faith without works is useless?

I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book;

Now David had said, “It is certainly for nothing that I have guarded everything that this man has in the wilderness, so that nothing has gone missing of all that belonged to him! For he has returned me evil for good.
