Mark 10:2

And some Pharisees came up to Jesus, testing Him, and began questioning Him whether it was lawful for a man to divorce his wife.

“For I hate divorce,” says the Lord, the God of Israel, “and him who covers his garment with violence,” says the Lord of armies. “So be careful about your spirit, that you do not deal treacherously.”

Then the disciples came and *said to Him, “Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this statement?”

The Pharisees and Sadducees came up, and putting Jesus to the test, they asked Him to show them a sign from heaven.

Some Pharisees came to Jesus, testing Him and asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?”

And one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him:

“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you shut the kingdom of heaven in front of people; for you do not enter it yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.

But the Pharisees were saying, “He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons.”

Setting out from there, Jesus *went to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan; crowds *gathered to Him again, and, as He was accustomed, He once more began to teach them.

And He answered and said to them, “What did Moses command you?”

And the Pharisees came out and began to argue with Him, demanding from Him a sign from heaven, to test Him.

And He was giving orders to them, saying, “Watch out! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and the leaven of Herod.”

But the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the dish; but your inside is full of greed and wickedness.

Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things and were ridiculing Him.

The Pharisees and their scribes began grumbling to His disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?”

Now the scribes and the Pharisees were watching Him closely to see if He healed on the Sabbath, so that they might find a reason to accuse Him.

But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected God’s purpose for themselves, not having been baptized by John.

Therefore the chief priests and the Pharisees convened a council meeting, and they were saying, “What are we doing in regard to the fact that this Man is performing many signs?

Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where He was, he was to report it, so that they might arrest Him.

The Pharisees heard the crowd whispering these things about Him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest Him.

Not one of the rulers or Pharisees has believed in Him, has he?

Now they were saying this to test Him, so that they might have grounds for accusing Him. But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground.

Nor are we to put the Lord to the test, as some of them did, and were killed by the snakes.
