Sarah died in Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan; and Abraham came in to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.

Then the king trembled and went up to the chamber over the gate and wept. And this is what he said as he walked: “My son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you, Absalom, my son, my son!”

And to the eyes of the sons of Israel, the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a consuming fire on the mountain top.

“And I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and of pleading, so that they will look at Me whom they pierced; and they will mourn for Him, like one mourning for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn.

and say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a song of mourning, and you did not mourn.’

Now following Him was a large crowd of the people, and of women who were mourning and grieving for Him.

And all the crowds who came together for this spectacle, after watching what had happened, began to return home, beating their chests.

When He came to the house, He did not allow anyone to enter with Him except Peter, John, and James, and the girl’s father and mother.

And they began laughing at Him, knowing that she had died.

But when Jesus heard this, He said, “This sickness is not meant for death, but is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified by it.”
