For each tree is known by its own fruit. For people do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they pick grapes from a briar bush.

You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes, nor figs from thistles, are they?

So then, you will know them by their fruits.

Can a fig tree, my brothers and sisters, bear olives, or a vine bear figs? Nor can salt water produce fresh.

These are the ones who are hidden reefs in your love feasts when they feast with you without fear, like shepherds caring only for themselves; clouds without water, carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, doubly dead, uprooted;
