Woe to you when all the people speak well of you; for their fathers used to treat the false prophets the same way.

The crucible is for silver and the furnace for gold, And each is tested by the praise accorded him.

Who say to the seers, “You must not see visions”; And to the prophets, “You must not prophesy the truth to us. Speak to us pleasant words, Prophesy illusions.

The prophets prophesy falsely, And the priests rule on their own authority; And My people love it this way! But what will you do when the end comes?

“If someone walking after wind and falsehood Had lied and said, ‘I will prophesy to you about wine and liquor,’ He would become a prophet to this people.

“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

Woe to you who are well-fed now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.

If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.

The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify about it, that its deeds are evil.

For such people are slaves, not of our Lord Christ but of their own appetites; and by their smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting.

You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
