Now following Him was a large crowd of the people, and of women who were mourning and grieving for Him.
I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me;
and say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a song of mourning, and you did not mourn.’
And many women were there watching from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee while caring for Him.
Now there were also some women watching from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the Less and Joses, and Salome.
But Jesus turned to them and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, stop weeping for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
Now the women who had come with Him from Galilee followed, and they saw the tomb and how His body was laid.
and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses: Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,
Now they were all weeping and mourning for her; but He said, “Stop weeping, for she has not died, but is asleep.”
Truly, truly I say to you that you will weep and mourn, but the world will rejoice; you will grieve, but your grief will be turned into joy!
