And He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the sight of people, but God knows your hearts; because that which is highly esteemed among people is detestable in the sight of God.

Since I know, my God, that You put the heart to the test and delight in uprightness, I, in the integrity of my heart, have willingly offered all these things; so now with joy I have seen Your people, who are present here, make their offerings willingly to You.

then hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, and forgive, and render to each according to all his ways, whose heart You know—for You alone know the hearts of the sons of mankind—

¶For the wicked boasts of his soul’s desire, And the greedy person curses and shows disrespect to the Lord.

¶This is the way of those who are foolish, And of those after them who approve their words. Selah

Though while he lives he congratulates himself— And though people praise you when you do well for yourself—

Please let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous; For the righteous God puts hearts and minds to the test.

Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord; Be assured, he will not go unpunished.

Many a person proclaims his own loyalty, But who can find a trustworthy person?

Every person’s way is right in his own eyes, But the Lord examines the hearts.

“I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, To give to each person according to his ways, According to the results of his deeds.

So now we call the arrogant blessed; not only are the doers of wickedness built up, but they also put God to the test and escape punishment.’ ”

And they do all their deeds to be noticed by other people; for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels of their garments.

“Now whenever you fast, do not make a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they distort their faces so that they will be noticed by people when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.

“So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, so that they will be praised by people. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.

“And when you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they will be seen by people. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.

But wanting to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

But the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the dish; but your inside is full of greed and wickedness.

The Pharisee stood and began praying this in regard to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, crooked, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other one; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

And he said, “All these things I have kept since my youth.”

Now He also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed others with contempt:

And so they watched Him closely, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, in order that they might catch Him in some statement, so that they could hand Him over to the jurisdiction and authority of the governor.

who devour widows’ houses, and for appearance’s sake offer long prayers. These will receive all the more condemnation.”

and because He did not need anyone to testify about mankind, for He Himself knew what was in mankind.

He *said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was hurt because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus *said to him, “Tend My sheep.

(Now this man acquired a field with the price of his wickedness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out.

And they prayed and said, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all people, show which one of these two You have chosen

And God, who knows the heart, testified to them giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us;

because by the works of the Law none of mankind will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes knowledge of sin.

and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of human hearts; and then praise will come to each person from God.

but it should be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.

You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God is opposed to the proud, but He gives grace to the humble.

And I will kill her children with plague, and all the churches will know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts; and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds.

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God does not see as man sees, since man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
