Luke 14:1

It happened that when He went into the house of one of the leaders of the Pharisees on the Sabbath to eat bread, they were watching Him closely.

For as he thinks within himself, so he is. He says to you, “Eat and drink!” But his heart is not with you.

And they were watching Him closely to see if He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him.

Now when He had spoken, a Pharisee *asked Him to have lunch with him; and He went in and reclined at the table.

And there in front of Him was a man suffering from edema.

Now He was questioned by the Pharisees as to when the kingdom of God was coming, and He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God is not coming with signs that can be observed;

And so they watched Him closely, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, in order that they might catch Him in some statement, so that they could hand Him over to the jurisdiction and authority of the governor.

Now the scribes and the Pharisees were watching Him closely to see if He healed on the Sabbath, so that they might find a reason to accuse Him.

Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews;

But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the Law, respected by all the people, stood up in the Council and gave orders to put the men outside for a short time.
